History of Access to the Lighthouse
As an unmanned lighthouse since 1919, public access to the tower was a very rare treat. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has been known to open the doors on special occasions (i.e. Australia Day) however the operation of regular tours had been hindered by many factors such as parking, public safety, signage, and most importantly, protection of the lighthouse apparatus.

Until 19.. the lighthouse was surrounded by private residences on an unsealed road, with limited space for parking. However, after many years of planning and hard work by various organisations and individuals, and expenditure of money awarded as grants was used to prepare the lighthouse for visitors and the lighthouse finally opened its doors to the public.

In early 2005, the local Surf Coast Shire awarded Eco-Logic the tender to conduct tours of the lighthouse and the official opening was held on Wednesday 2 November 2005.

Tours are now available every day of the year, on the hour between 11am and 2pm(last tour).  We often have extended tour hours in January and Easter Weekend, and other holidays. Private tours can also be booked.

News Flash : Since Easter 2016, we have had permission to trial Express Tours on busy days.  This is a flat rate of $10pp and customers can self tour through the lighthouse, chatting to expert guides top and bottom, taking as long or little time as they like, between 10am and 4pm.  Look out for notices of Express Tour days coming up.
